A return of 7.26% in the last quarter of 2017 is great! But what was my return for the whole year?
Using XIRR to calculate my compounded annual growth rate gets me 13.17% (this would have been my return if I had invested for the full year). But I opened my ISA only on April 19, 2017, making it necessary to calculate the equivalent return for the 257 days I put my money on the line. Using the compound interest formula (in the formula bar above) I find that my 2017 return was 9.10%.
Considering I made my three investments near the end of the year (the first one only at the end of August) and that I was still 25% in cash on December 31, I’m very happy with this outcome. And I’m looking forward to see what 2018 will bring (my first full year of results).
Happy new year everyone!
